My point is that we'll be lucky to see anything else in our lifetime attesting to Lonnie's importance. From what I hear from reliable sources much was ignored and, once again, we had to put up with tired references to 'washboards and home made music' along with celebrity nods of approval.
Donegan and his Group - in 1956-1958 - were the epitome of cutting edge, 'cool' and hip and were the Beatles of their day. When will this be acknowledged?
How I yearn for a time when Donegan's voice was all that was needed to focus everyone's attention. Surely his was the first alien character in Britain's new popular music. Who cares what Paul McCartney thinks? He was just a fan like me along with everybody else.
