John Axon was the driver of a train which ran away after leaving Buxton, Derbyshire in, I think 1958. John was killed after telling his fireman to jump to safety. John stayed with his train which left the rails at Chapel-en-le Frith, six miles from Buxton. Shortly after a radio programme was dedicated to John. The song The Ballad of John Axton was featured in this programme. I can't remember who sang the song.
