LUTZ - i second every word of that... I was 15 years old on 7 December 1998 and was sat in the car with Lonnie himself and Roger Dugelby as his guest and as a Lonnie fan, lugging gear, bla bla bla. I bought the album which came out in January following the concert - I know this because I was barely interested in Christmas that year all I wanted to do was get the January sales on and get the shops open again for the new album being released on January 4th 1999. I then did my GCSE exams through 1999 and had a backing track made to a similar version of Lonnie's take on Poker Club and played the guitar parts and did a 4 track recording of Alabamy Bound for my exams (and got straight 'A's I must add
)
So yup each word is correct Lutz - I know Paul L spoke to Lonnie to and he said he was angry that no one spoke with him first as they could have possibly saved that show however the year before Square Peg productions had PR help and made a success but at the 1999 concert they didn't and infact failed! which left Lonnie, Van and Ronnie wood on stage at the 100 club Oxford Street for a news night interview for a concert that didn't happen!
Such a serious muck up of a potential good show! kind of amusing I must add that the National Skiffle Society never sent me another magazine afterwards - however they happily cashed my cheque! Since then I feel exceptionaly let down by Derek Mason and Eddie Armour as they owe me a refund of my cheque that I couldn't chase up because i couldn't get hold of anyone!
