The men’s modified division lives on.
Even though only have five teams signed up as of Thursday night, there will be a modified division going for the 26th annual Daily Times/Exelon Champs ’n’ Charity Classic.
There is still room for more teams. The deadline for registration is 9 o’clock tonight. No teams will be admitted after the deadline.
The tournament begins Friday, Aug. 21 and concludes Monday, Aug. 24. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
The entry fee is $200. All checks and money orders should be made out to the American Cancer Society. The fee includes 15 tournament T-shirts.
The tournament is open to leagues from Delaware County registered with the Daily Times.
Rosters can include up to 20 players that are playoff eligible for your team. A team may pick up three players from other teams that are not in the tournament. Those players must be playoff eligible.
Registration is easy. All it takes is an e-mail or phone call. The e-mail address is 230terry@gmail.com. The phone number is 610-622-8881. Information should include team name, league affiliation and a phone number and e-mail address for the person in charge of the team.
The organizational meetings have been set. The women’s meeting is schedule for 7 p.m. Sunday at the Daily Times. The men will get together Tuesday, Aug. 18 at Mickey Vernon Park in Marcus Hook. The meeting begins at 8 p.m.
All teams in the tournament must be represented.
As of Thursday, 22 teams have signed up for the men’s slow pitch division, five in the modified division and nine in the women’s bracket.
The teams in the slow pitch field are: Latter Day Saints A (Community Church); Sharon Hill Fire Company (Delco Emergency Services); Dolan’s Pub, Wharf Tavern, Dexter’s on the 5, Vista Villans, Garrett Ale House (Delco Independent); Coaches Bar (Delco Industrial); South Jersey Sports Zone/Matty’s Place and Swarthmore Beverage (Delcom); Physical Therapy Physicians and Barnaby’s Knights (Lawrence Park); Sher-Rockee Farms/Moore Painting, G.T. Realtors/Clank’s Bar, Hopson Seal Coating/J.P. Auto Transport, Lefty’s Irish Pub, Sweeney’s Pub, Duffer’s Pub and Thirsty Bulldog/Kelly Sports (Marcus Hook); Moe’s Homers and Sligo Irish Pub (Millennium) and Upland A.C. Young Guns (Millennium Upland).
The men’s modified field features Clifton Inn Knights (Mike McArdle Over 39); Casey’s Saloon (Delco East); McGillicuddy’s, Stanley Kup Inn and Preferred Sportswear (LBC Rec).
Buck Frank, Appco Sports World/Duke’s Tavern, Mikey’s, Clifton Inn, R.P. McMurphy’s, Moe’s Grille, Marty Magee’s II, Kelly Monaghan’s and Durty Nellys will vie for the women’s title.

Finally, our fundraising efforts are going strong and we have to give a shout out to the officials from the Intra-County, Delco and Suburban swim leagues, who run the Daily Times Elite Meet. The Elite Meet raised $1,360 for the American Cancer Society. We cannot thank you enough.
