Calling all charity teams, it’s time to sign up for the 26th annual Daily Times/Exelon Champs ’n’ Charity Classic, co-sponsored by MVP Sporting Goods of Aston.
Latter Day Saints from the Community Church League, Sligo’s Irish Pub from the Millennium League and Kelly Monaghan’s from the Suburban Women’s Slow Pitch League have already answered the challenge.
There’s room for plenty more.
The tournament begins Friday, Aug. 21 and concludes Monday, Aug. 24. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
We are especially looking for modified teams that play in leagues in Delaware County to fill out our modified bracket. We need a total of eight teams to have a modified division.
The entry fee is $200. All checks and money orders should be made out to the American Cancer Society. The fee includes 15 tournament T-shirts.
The tournament is open to leagues from Delaware County registered with the Daily Times.
The men’s slow pitch tournament is NSA sanctioned. The women’s division is an ASA sanctioned event.
Rosters can include up to 20 players that are playoff eligible for your team. A team may pick up three players from other teams that are not in the tournament. Those players must be playoff eligible from a league registered with the Daily Times.
Registration is easy. All it takes is an e-mail or phone call. The e-mail address is 230terry@gmail.com. The phone number is (610) 622-8881. Information should include team name, league affiliation and a phone number and e-mail address for the person in charge of the team.
Entry checks should be mailed to Terry Toohey, Daily Times Sports Department, 500 Mildred Ave., Primos, Pa. 19018.
Deadline for registration is Friday, Aug. 14. No teams will be admitted after that date. An organizational meeting for the men’s divisions will be 8 p.m., Aug. 18 at Mickey Vernon Park in Marcus Hook.
Terry Toohey is the assistant sports editor of the Daily Times.
