2009 CHAMPS ‘n CHARITY
We are putting together the final plans for the Daily Times/Exelon 26th Annual Champs ‘n Charity event. At the conclusion of the 25th annual tournament Terry Toohey reported that we have raised a total of $460,000 for the American Cancer Society. Exelon recently contributed an additional $5,000 to ACS. So we are only $35,000 from the HALF MILLION dollar mark! In addition to the economy, we have some challenges and need your help.
As most of you are aware, the Daily Times parent company, JRC, is going through a bankruptcy proceeding. For the past 23 years the DT has had several line items in their budget to support the high school All Delco Sports Banquet and C’nC. Our fundraising efforts - through direct donations from the leagues and the support of the tournament sponsors – have assisted the DT in running the banquet. This year we need to step up even more since the DT cannot fund these events but will support both with their usual outstanding coverage in the newspaper and through the support of the Sports Department Staff. Exelon has already written a check for $10,000 as the signature sponsor.
Here is where you can help. We are seeking six to ten sponsors at $500 each. The sponsors will be listed on the DT/Exelon Benefit fundraiser chances and also on the back of the 2009 C’nC T-shirt within the scroll containing the previous champs and MVPs. They will also get recognition in newspaper. We can use a logo or name of the company with either their phone # or website. This opportunity is being offered on a first come basis. It is not our intention to have the T-shirt look like a NASCAR vehicle and we need to give special consideration to our primary T-shirt sponsors Exelon and MVP Sporting Goods. The check should be made payable to Delco Sports Banquet.
Additionally, we plan to have the chances on the street by the third week of June. They will also be offered for sale on the Internet again. We also are seeking volunteers for the fundraising committee and to distribute the chances. The prizes are shaping up to be as outstanding as last year. We have the following already confirmed:
Grand prize - Travel the World. One week at a Marriott Vacation Club Villa (2BR, 2 bath) Worldwide. $2,000 travel voucher for airfare and expenses.
1st Prize – Dream Football Weekend Nov. 6 – 8 . Penn State vs. Ohio State then Eagles vs. Cowboys. Friday and Saturday night at State College with accommodations at the new Fairfield Inn and two tix to the game. Sunday night Eagles – Cowboys. Two lower level tix at the Linc.
Other great prizes confirmed are:
Four Phils- Mets tix Sept.11 in the 3rd row with parking
Two lower level tix to Eagles home opener vs. Saints on Sept 20
Winner Circle Sports softball package.
Additional prizes are being finalized. You can help here too with any donated prizes.
