I'm soooo glad that video came along! A PP dog is all about the fight, Manstopping, period!
In order to be an effective fighter we all know a boxer or an MMA fighter uses a sparring partner and they actually "fight" or spar, to sharpen the fighters skills. In PP work we have a decoy with protective gear performing the same function except "THE DECOY NEVER FIGHTS FAIR!" The dog has no chance to practice his fighting skills! How can he learn to be a Manstopper when the man is stopping the dog in EVERY sparring match?
This video was not rehearsed. There are no seminars where they say “lets get bit without our sleeves or suits today” as a result almost NO-body has any idea of what happens when a dog attacks, until now. You can see, in real life, the dog does not need to take much pressure, because the man is quickly on the ground doing an imitation of a three year old.
It is that automatic reaction that allows the dog to “Create” the pressure instead of taking it. In this case the dog had all four feet securely on the ground as it slid to a sit in front of the man. From this position of security, when the dog saw a threat coming, (the other strike from the whip hand) it reacted naturally by releasing the sleeve and stopping the threatening blow. If it had been suspended in air, as most “PP Trainers” would do your dog, it would have hung on to the first bite and been struck by the second hand.
How hard can you punch while standing on one foot? A dog that bites an arm and then has front feet taken, off the ground, has no choice but to hang on to the bite it has got. If the dog turns lose it will fall, which is not a secure feeling and it then has to come up with another reaction to stop the human. Training your dog to do PP work with a decoy suspending the dog from the sleeve, their front feet OFF the ground is the same as you doing a one handed pull-up.
Eighty five percent of everything decoys know about catching a dog comes from SchH based info. It is good solid info on how to start a dog on bite work. It IS NOT PP training. In SchH the dog bites, is held in the air and then driven X steps while receiving three stick hits. It is clear in this video the decoy had no intention of suspending the dog from his arm and then “driving” him anywhere. This was the first time in his fifteen year career, that PP decoy ever worked a dog like a PP decoy, and you can clearly see the dog is the confident winner in this fight. PP DECOY rule # 1; Get their feet on the ground and let them learn how to fight the man!
In sport the fight ends when the dog bites and is judged, in PP it is only just beginning. PP ain't your grandma's decoy work!
