"I use a prey object in my narcotics/explosive detection work, even with dual purpose dogs but I always make sure of three things. One is that it is only with the handler
and two that the dogs affinity for man is higher than for a toy and three that that prey item is never used even by the handler during bite work."
How is the prey object used, as a way to direct towards the outcome wanted. Is the prey item associated with the nark/expl. item and then eliminated when they figure out what their really looking for.
You stated step 1 "only with the Handler", then in step 3 "that the prey item is never used". So, this means initially used, then when the dog learns to make man his primary target, it is then eliminated all together.
So in both cases its the same process to achieve totally differant outcomes.
