For me personally, I choose when or if my dogs ever stop the fight for control. Texas law is very clear if they are on your property, your dog can eat them. I see it as a liability for the dog's safety, to let go and get sucker punched.
That guy will be laying on the ground motionless before I ever release the dog from the fight.
Local laws should probably be considered.
