I stand at the edge of a great precipice. My mane and tail are stark white in the morning sunlight and they blow gently in a soft breeze. My brown eyes watch the activities below me, but little of it registers in my brain. I think of the past, and little of the present. My mind wanders.
I think of the horses I used to know as a child, and what happened to us - how we all moved on and grew up, and how we each lost a little part of ourselves in the journey. My thoughts traveled to the mare I used to love, and the battles I fought for her, and I wondered if they were futile now that she was gone. I want to sigh, but it is not in my nature to express my deepest feelings; so I am stoic and quiet as I stand with a stature like rock.
