He had believers.
He couldn’t deny that the sick swell of pride welling up in him made him feel good. His sick twisted mind and his cold heart love the high that being God gives them. She believes him and she loves him- she needs something to look up to and he gave it to her. That’s God’s purpose in life, to provide others with a purpose. When they have faith they need something to believe in and Rhamiel’s given them that. He’s given them their tangible God, their creator that they can see with their own eyes and talk to in the flesh. They don’t have to pray to the skies because Rhamiel is there, always watching them, and he’s waiting. No longer waiting for nothing, now he’s waiting for them.
Waiting for the believers.
Deep down, he knows the game he plays and he knows it’s just a game. He knows exactly how he plays it and once he let his secret out. God doesn’t exist, and so there’s nothing to stop him but claiming God’s position. He was the first one, he was the first and that makes him the only. No one’s going to dispute a tangible God that is there in front of your face, that you can touch and see. No one’s going to dispute him the way they dispute the heavens. Yes, there are nonbelievers but as time goes on and more believe, there will be nothing to stop Rhamiel from truly being God. The ones with weak minds or purposeless lives will believe him because they want to or they need to. The ones that are stronger or more rebellious, they won’t want to believe him but when everyone else does they won’t be able to deny it without being condemned.
The power is overwhelming and tempting and Rhamiel can see it within his grasp. He knows he can reach it but it just needs to spread. It will be slow, but already word of God has begun to leak through the meadow, it has come into common conversation and those who have never met or seen him have heard that he is God. He is not too far from knowing the power that comes from being the supreme being.
Someday, after it has spread through the meadow, his kingdom, it will leak into the kingdoms and the herds and someday all Beqanna will have a God to look up to. And someday, he will die, because Rhamiel is not really God and is not really immortal (he can die but he doesn’t want them to know it) and all his believer’s worlds will be shattered and Beqanna will realize they have been deceived. And Rhamiel, with his sick twisted mind, would enjoy watching their words crumble all because they believed in him.
She is one of those believers, who needs him, more than she can explain. She has approached him herself but he does not care enough to be impressed by her boldness. The pride swells more though, when she speaks, “You are magnificent as I have heard,” and if he did smile, he would now. He is handsome, extremely so, with the face of his father, an old Chamber king. He looks Godly, though he is not shiny or gold, as one had told him he should be. He knows her, he has seen her because she is as much a meadow dweller like he is, and he is lucky to know her name, because he has picked it up in conversations he has eavesdropped on. He knows so much about the meadow, because he is always watching them. ”Lovers,” he murmurs in his low raspy voice. ”What have you come for?”
It’s sick, the way he tries to act like a God. He knows he must, though he doesn’t always. To some he does not even introduce himself as God, and some he makes it clear that it’s all a charade. But with her, with the believers and with the ones that might believe, if they are convinced, he needs to stay in character. He needs to be God for them, because they need him.
