If you were not aware, the TN and GA Select baseball community lost one of the greatest coach, mentor, and friend to the players on both sides of the diamond. Michael Mullens, head coach of the North Georgia Bulldogs, 2008 8-under Coach Pitch in the most tragic event. He was murdered on Dec 19,2008 as he arrived at the company that he co-owned. I hope that each team involved in this organization will take this to heart and find something to do for the players, but most of all his wonderful wife and only son, Cory to honor his memory. Even if it is just a moment of silence or an extra hug to each and every player. Life is so short and when a truly good man leaves this earth..many question why..I ask that you think why not. Why would the Lord not want the best by his side and personally, you will not find another coach that cared more for his family, the families of his players and the love of the game of baseball in general. Please Please pray for guidance for his family left behind and for the law enforcement that they find who is responsible for this horrindous act that was so undeserving! I can attest to every single statement that I wrote. My son Tyson played for Mike Mullens for three years. Almost exactly one year ago, my 7 yr old baby had to be told that his dad committed suicide. Mike was by his side and said I will do for Tyson ANYTHING that is necessary. If you can;t pay, if he needed time alone, if he needs weekly talks, whatever it takes..we will make sure our TYSON will not feel alone on that field. All this AFTER Tyson left to go to the Chattanooga CHiefs, a rival team once we went select. He was a mentor, friend, but most of all a man to my son when he didn't have to be! God Bless Donna, his wife, and Corey, his son as they struggle to just exist day to day at this point. They don't need your sympathy, just how much you care. If you would like to send them a card, Please send it to my address and we will make sure that it is forwarded to the Mullens family.
