Companies are posting dividends and profits based on cost-cutting and layoffs... not sales.
The fundamentals of this stock market are an illusion. In a consumer based economy, unemployment has a delayed effect on companies, but eventually without sales or people to let go, the value of the company drops.
This isn't a conservative or liberal approch or spin. Real economists are not trying to sell you gold, they are telling you to get into safe municiple bonds.I've done my reading - even the MSNBC expert is bewildered at this market.
