Conservatives send message at polls

Voters in Virginia, New Jersey, Maine and other states let their conservative voices be heard yesterday at the polls.
In Virginia, Republican Robert McDonnell easily beat out Democrat Creigh Deeds, who received support from President Obama. It was not enough though, to stem the tide of conservatives who showed up at the polls.
Likewise in New Jersey, where Democratic incumbent Jon Corzine was defeated by Republican Chris Christie. High taxes and other economic woes were Corzine's undoing. New Jersey has seen a large number of people leave the state due to tax increases and a bleak economic outlook.
New York City's Mayor Michael Bloomberg won his bid for a third-term, although narrowly. After engineering a controversial change to the city's term limits, the incumbent Mayor held on to a thin margin to defeat Democrat challenger Bill Thompson, New York City's comptroller.
And, in Maine, voters rejected a law that would have legalized gay marriage. The law was passed last spring by the Maine legislature, but a Republican-led petition drive put it on hold for a referendum. And, the public spoke loudly to voice their opposition to the law.
Overall, the tone of yesterday's election was more conservative than a year ago when Barack Obama won a large portion of the independent vote to seal his Presidency.
Although, mainstream pundits will claim the results from yesterday are no reflection on Obama's job approval, it would seem that a tide is turning back towards conservative values.
And, it can be attributed to the grassroots movement that has swept across this nation, demanding to be heard. Through talk radio, internet blogs, cable news, protests, votes and other means, the conservatives in America are only now beginning to wake up to the call for action.
