This info will be in your State's Nurse Practice Acts and may vary from state to state. You need to talk to your State Board of Nursing. Just type your State name and Board of Nursing- example: Ohio Board of Nursing.
You can also call them. Be sure you put their info in writing and ask for a verification - just in case.
Again, states differ but in most states, a licensed nurse can delegate to a NA if she:
1. Is within the nurses scope of practice and she knows how to do it herself
2. Will teach it to the NA ( and document the teaching)
3. Will directly supervise the NA while she is performing the task
4. Is willing to be held liable for the NA action if something goes wrong.
Hope this helps - feel free to contact our office directly if you want to discuss further.
