Hi Nigel. Hope your board catches on. I have problems navigating at the moment. I'm a slow learner. My interest in the current climate debate is focused on wind power. Basically I am trying to find the carbon footprint of wind power generators. Aluminium manufacture seems to use considerable amounts of electricity. The amount of cement to build the off shore bases. Then the logistics of access roads, new cables, distribution transformers, the list goes on and on. The forcast of just 30% efficiency for electricity production such that 30gigawatts of wind generators is needed to equal the output of one coal fired 10gigawatt generating station. Coupled with the forcast lifetime of just 25 years seems to indicate payback time will be minimal if not zero.
On searching the web I can only find how wonderfull wind energy will be. No facts at all on production costs.
