Once you learn some West Coast Swing you will never be the same. It is the dance that those with the music in their souls reach out to.

: Wish I had more time to spend on this one!
: West Coast Swing is by reputation the most
: advanced of the Swing dances.
: When it first started out it was called
: "Western Swing". That was in the
: 50s in the LA area.
: Now "Western Swing" is another
: name for "Country Swing", Cowboy
: Swing, OKie Swing, Aggie Swing, and I think
: there are other names for it, too. And those
: are probably all a bit different.
: West Coast has been simplified over the
: years, but it's still a bit harder than East
: Coast Swing.
: If you aren't staying in a slot, if the
: woman isn't walking forward, and you aren't
: "anchoring", you aren't really
: doing West Coast (but there are those who
: would disagree).
:
: The first book I've been able to find with
: "Cowboy" swing was written
: during/after the Western craze in the 80s,
: which followed the Disco craze. A lot of the
: moves look the same... Hmmm.... Were they
: doing this stuff before disco???
:
: Some people caution women about the arm
: yanking effects of "Cowboy" swing.
: I know two women now who had surgery due to
: torn rotator cuff dance related injuries.
: Although it does happen with other dances,
: it seems more common in Cowboy swing, and
: it's pretty easy to see why.
:
: Country Western dancers in general are a lot
: less interested in rules and definitions
: than are some other dancers.
