A few weeks ago I happened to hit a Saturday night dance lesson where they taught both the sweetheart stroll and a fabulously fun barn dance. During the evening the songs the two dances were taught to were again played; but by then other people had started to show up. Those who had learned the sweetheart stroll TRIED, but were bowled over by horseshoers and being so new at the dance got lost and gave up. They didn't even TRY to do the barn dance when everyone else started line dancing to Wild wild west.
A few people mentioned that it would have been nice if the DJ had announced those songs as the sweetheart stroll and the barn dance. This would have prevented dancers who weren't there earlier from taking over the floor.
New dances will never catch on if people don't get the chance to do them. And I think the barn dance would be a smash if more people got to see it!
