Oh my, I must respond. I know a lot of line dances, and I'm pretty darned creative at getting out there, figuring out the beat, and then flipping through my mental rolodex of dances to find a dance that fits.
Joyce is a great teacher, however, when its hip/hop its just not going to work usually. Even if I'm willing to be out there in the middle of the floor by myself, figuring out a line dance that will work, I may be by myself, or with one or two others, because not everyone else is willing to do that. And that just isn't that much fun.
Instead of a line dance being done every third (or fourth) dance, how about every other dance? Or... how about every dance and couples dances every 3 or 4 dances? I know... sacreligious. BW has made it really clear to this line dancer that they are far more interested in partner dances than line dances.

: RE: Music Requests - there is a request list
: at the DJ booth. The DJ on Thursday and
: Saturday usually (sooner or later) plays
: almost everything on the list if it is in
: the music library. Just don't expect to
: hear it right away; if you have a request,
: write it down on the sheet well BEFORE you
: want to hear it.

: RE: Music Genre - I haven't noticed an
: "overabundance" of hip-hop/rock
: being played. Despite what some people may
: think, if you watch, most of the songs are
: danceable (sure, there are the occasional
: experimental songs that get played just to
: see how the crowd reacts). You'll see alot
: of couples (including regulars) doing a
: west-coast swing, or even a two step, in
: many cases. Yes, there are others that just
: go out and shake their booty, too. A lot of
: people, including regulars, request the
: hip-hop/rock music. The majority of the
: music played is country music - at most,
: there may be about 12 songs per night that
: are hip-hop/rock (so figure that genre of
: music isn't played until 10pm, that would
: average out to about 3 songs per hour that
: are hip-hop/rock on a Saturday night).

: RE: More Line Dances - if you think not
: enough line dances, perhaps you should talk
: to Joyce (line dance instructor). She may
: tell you to think again. Actually, she'll
: point out that there are plenty of line
: dances being played and that you just don't
: know enough of them. A line dance can be
: done to about every third song (on average),
: you just need to know the songs and
: corresponding dances. If you don't believe
: me, ask Joyce. Other people are also of the
: opinion that there are too many line dances
: being played. The DJ tries to play a
: variety to please everyone.
