Hi Doc:
Thanks for the note; hope you can make it out soon as well! And yep, that would be me, the line dancin' fireman as my co-workers love to refer to me...despite the fact that I try to explain that line dancing is just a part of the whole dance experience at Bushwhackers, it falls on deaf ears much of the time. They get really quiet though when I ask them when they're coming out to check the scene out themselves. I tell them there's even a dance just for them..."The Chicken Dance"!
Things have been well around Bushwhackers; we've seen a lot of new faces coming in over the summer, and now that the weather's turning cool and damp, the crowds are starting to pick up again. Last night, at the Kristy Lee Cook concert, there were a lot of new faces, and many of them seemed mesmerized by the dancing that went on before and after the concert. It will be interesting to see if a lot of them return to check it out further. I just realized that two weeks from today, it'll be two years exactly since we ourselves first stepped foot into Bushwhackers, for my birthday. By the end of that evening - aided by two Long Islands - I grudgingly caved into Peggy's near-groveling to take a dance class the following week, promising that if I didn't like it, she would never drag me back. If my tally is accurate, we've been back about 220 times now.
To be fair, the dancing isn't the sole reason we've made ourselves fixtures there over the past couple of years. It has also been the friends we've made, who have made us feel welcome from the beginning. The term extended family has never meant more to us than it has over the past two years, and it includes some very special people who we couldn't imagine not having in our lives. It's a concept that many BW regulars can relate to, I'm sure, but probably seems odd to "outsiders" like my co-workers, until they might one day be as fortunate as we to experience it.
Thanks for the comments on the website; I appreciate hearing feedback, good or otherwise. It's been fun putting it together, and so far I've been able to resist the temptation to keep playing with the format, which would likely become pretty annoying to folks visiting the site on a regular basis.
My apologies for being so long-winded tonight; I'm at work, and we finally have some down time after a lonnnnng day of training and a not-so-fun barn fire. We'll be out on the dance floor tomorrow and Saturday nights though, if it kills me!
Don
