Yes, the SBBB thing made a huge impression. Also, on goodreads and elsewhere I get tired of the "fangrrls" or on the LRK board the "bible thumping" of some of them. Then there's the author's blog postings of how little money they make, how hard done by they are, how they couldn't write anything today.... and I lose sympathy quickly and get turned off of their writing.
I agree on the mediocre writing of late and little that truly appeals. Any particular style/genre I can look through my pages and recommend?
