Emotional Experience
While on vacation Anita and I witnessed a drowning. At first we thought it was a rescue, people were yelling “Help” and “Lifeguard”! There was a girl struggling out in the waves so a fellow swam out to get her with his Boogie Board, after they brought her to shore we realized that there was another person missing. We were on the top floor of the condo building and I had my Binoculars so we started looking as we probably had the best view. After about 15-20 minutes a fellow in the water about knee deep found her, it was a 12 year old girl! By this time there were a lot of rescue people and they worked very hard to try and save her but it was just too late, she was under water way to long.
OK a couple things were wrong here and I don’t want to sound like a jerk but…………. You know I have to say what I think.
* It did not look like they were good swimmers at all and the waves were 6-8 feet with a Rip Current (Deadly).
* There was NO adult supervision that I ever saw.
I will never forget what I saw and as I told my 2 boys, that’s why we don’t let you swim alone! Watch your children folks some mistakes can take your life!
