We are looking for an enthusiastic and conscientious person to enhance our team. You will support our highly motivated team in re-training and ultimately re-homing Thoroughbred ex-racehorses.
This is an exciting opportunity to work at a recognised centre of excellence, providing a high level of care to Thoroughbreds as they progress into their post-racing careers.
The successful candidate will be an essential part of the team, supporting the riding staff in the day to day care of these special horses. You will mainly be required to carry out yard and horse care duties to an exceptionally high standard with the opportunity to assist with rehabilitation and retraining in both ground and ridden work.
You must be able to demonstrate experience in handing vibrant, young and/or challenging horses and the ability to work to high standards within a large busy yard environment.
The successful candidate will benefit from excellent working conditions, ongoing training and have the opportunity to work alongside some of the North Wests best equine professionals. There is also the opportunity to promote the work of the TRC through demonstrations at public events and to compete the horses.
Job Description
Undertake basic daily yard routine, turn out and bring in horses, check for injuries and groom
Exercise horses under the supervision of senior staff
Comply with the health and safety legislation, full details of which are available in the yard office
Carry out any other reasonable tasks as requested by senior stable staff or the yard manager
Represent the Centre at public events and displays
Person Specification
Essential
Experience of working within a team in a busy yard environment
Proven equestrian experience
Competent and confident in riding and handling thoroughbreds
Interest in equine welfare
Open-minded approach to different methods of horse training
Good timekeeper
Well organised
Sense of humour
Current driving licence
Desirable
BHS Stage 2 or equivalent
