I would like to personally thank each and every parent and child for all of your support and hard work preparing for this trip. Each of you gave so much but expected nothing more from me than to allow your boy an opportunity to compete here in Chicago. I would like to take all of the credit but I can't honestly do that. These boys played their little hearts out. They took all of the yelling, begging and intensity from me day after day, week after week and month after month. They came down here prepared, focused and ready to show Chicago what Alaska basketball was all about. And they did this with class and respect that they obviously learned from their parents. Coaching them was easy for me because of the commitment from the players and their parents. You will never know how much your support has meant to me. I can't thank you enough.
I would also like to especially thank the Mccullough's, Bremer's and the Kuiper's for allowing their child to play with and travel with the STARS organization on this trip. I can honestly say that without them, we wouldn't have had as successful of a trip as we did. Let's be real...their addition to this team was valuable and needed. They brought a look to our team that we've needed for a very long time. Their ability to mesh with our existing players without "breaking" the bond that was already present was amazing. At some point, they weren't just the Fairbanks and/or Wasilla boys, but STARS players. Thanks for sacrificing all of your time, gas and funds to allow them to participate in our successful trip here to Chicago.
Thanks to the parents (especially Susan) for providing drinks, sandwiches and fruit snacks for all of the players during each game. Talk about the small things making big differences! We never had to worry about whether the boys had enough to drink or eat before, during or after the game. They took on the responsibility of making sure the boys needs were met EVERY game. Thanks parents for providing that very important service.
Finally, I would like to thank Mr. Kewan for his willingness to step in and be an assistant coach for this trip. He was asked by me last minute (literally) but quickly accepted without hesitation. He was truly a godsend and interacted very well with the team. His style of coaching directly complemented mine and was no doubt part of the reason that we were so successful. I can't say that I could've done as good a job without his presence on the bench. Thanks again Brian for all of your help.
