Hi
My first attempt with a Cycad was many years back, indoors. Now living in London UK, with the climate seeming to be getting milder all the time I'm having another go outside.
Bought my second Cycad early this year and having acclimatised it carefully to bright sunlight it has now spent the summer on a west facing balcony, in London UK.
It has obviously not yet put on any growth but having had a look at it closely today I'm doing something right, the crown has swelled slightly and the existing fronds are looking better for the fresh air and sunlight they have been getting over the summer.
My main concern now is obviously getting it through the winter. I intent to put it in a thick walled tall clay pot (approx 16" tall and inside diameter 9"), glazed to the outside. I know that preventing it from getting too wet in winter, especially in cold periods will probably be the secret to success so I want to give it the best chance buy choosing growing medium correctly for these conditions.
Could anyone give me some tips and suggestions?
