Hey Barb,
What palms do you grow in Canada & what zone should they grow at? I live in the UK in zone 8a (I think), but we tend to have damp as well as cold to put up with. On top of our problems, is also perhaps the lack of regular sunny spells which does not help matters much.
I have not long gotten the palm bug. All my attempts so far have been from growing them from seed collected on holidays (Canary Island Date Palm from Tenerife & Trachycarpus Fortunei from Zante in the Greek Isles). I do enjoy the challenge of growing most plants from seed & in the UK palms are a challenge!!
Hopefully, soon I should be getting more seed from a fellow growist of seed up to about zone 9a / 9b for me to try. Although saying that, all my seedlings have yet to be planted out into the British climate . . . 2008 here we come!!!
All the best for 2008.
p.s. Don't cheat, grow from seed!
