Next Thursday I will be moving from Nicholasville,KY(14 miles southwest of Lexington) to Saint Augustine, FL. But, I would like to share with you wht tropicals I had planted last year that have came back. Take in account we had an extra moist Winter and saw temps. down to 3 degrees 4 to 5 times with wind chills much lower.
I have Green Elephant Ears coming back, they haven't poked out but I dug up the bulbs to check and they are coming. My Mexican Shell lower is coming back as well and I have read every where to lift them during the Winter. They have already came back up. I have three red Amaryllis coming up and two are begining to bloom. Various Canna are coming back up along with my Black Elephant Ear. My Musa Banana and the baby that I planted in September in another location are already growing. The mother plant is already to the height it was in November or December when the frost finally got it. Then I have a Sago Palm that was left outside that is coming back.
This Spring I have planted a baby Sabal Palmetto, Sabal Minor, and Windmill Palm for the our home's new owners. They seemed to like the landscapeing and were glad they wouldn't have to do any of it. I have also spread over 50 seeds of Palmetto, Minor, and Windmill palms at a park and by our neighborhood's bridge in an effort to get palms in Kentucky. Maybe in a few years I will see palms growing. One of my family memebers want some Palms nd other tropicals and I will be planting them this weekend. I will have pics of that and my house up later this weekend.
Thanks for reading,
Jake
