I have T. fortunei, sabal minor and rhapidophyllum. The fortuneis away from the house are in an el cheapo pvc greenhouses and the two against the house will get a blanket if and when we drop below 8f this winter. The sabals have pine mulch, as well as the rhapido. I've tried both types of washingtonia but couldn't even get them through the summer.
My pet project this winter is trying to keep my melianthus major alive. If I fail again then my ebay source will get another sale this coming spring. MM is one of my all-time favorite tropicalesque plants.
Best, Alan
