Some good points being put forward here and the last response about scrapping the A + B and moving up to Adults then running a British Under 18's is I feel a good one! Or staying in the inters for a further year if you don't feel ready to move up.
We have two boy's who race and it will 3 to 5 years time before they are at the age to ride in the current senior A + B classes, If this class is re named, re vamped or re hashed in someway it will at least give kids who are due to move up something to aim for? Maybe even extend the age of the inters class so you have more riders in the class having 2 x lots heats and a final at most meetings etc?
But without support to change the current constitution these A + B classes will remain.
So if you are forward thinking and want to help change things for your kids future and the future of the youth grasstrack sport please forward your points on here, or better still e-mail tracey.cossar@acu.org.uk and air your views, It is no good having one voice at an open forum with one piece of paper being read out saying....I think we need to change the A + B classes because...etc?.
The ACU board will need at least 10 working day's prior to the 15th Nov to put an agenda together and your points need adding now to get a hearing at the forum.
To clarify the issue on 'no need for a fitted brake', most of this sport and its sister sport speedway, do not have any brakes, most or nearly all the people I speak to have never used or have their kids ever used a brake even when one is fitted. Many people only have the brake to get past the scrutineer and unscrew the brake when ready for racing (allegedly?)
The point made about 'Newcomers' coming into the sport? Well I feel these so called newcomers should be assessed first and not just be able to go out and race, there is practise / training day's organised at speedway tracks throughout the year and certain grass track practise meetings, so before new riders compete in a racing event he/she should be assessed by a nominated official of the host club to make sure they are competent to ride in a grasstrack race for the safety of their selves other riders/ marshals and spectators, even to the extent where they are given say an orange bib or similar for their first 2 - 3 meetings.
Let's face it if you are unable to stop coming into the pits after you have done your slow down lap or half lap after passing the finish flag you should not be riding in a grasstrack race.
