I am just going to put a few of points forward hopefully for discussion at the forthcoming ACU open forum.
(1). A New Name and a recatorisation of the classes ' Senior A and Senior B'
The reasons behind this is two fold, when you race in a youth event I don't think you want to be classed as a 'Senior' like a senior citezen or if you are playing golf the seniors are the over 50's etc.
Also these classes have not been very well supported as they are a little diverse and to try and encourage more riders to enter in them, along with the age limit of which I now believe is being reduced the 17 years old for next year?
so if you are 17 on Jan 1st you can stay in that class for the whole season even if you become 18 on Jan 2nd.
so any suggestions for re-naming the class?
Maybe;
Expert - or Expert Under 18's etc.
(2) One Fitted Brake or No Brakes from Cadet/Junior classes upward.
We had a bad inncident this season at Wainfleet where a clash of two riders resulted in the front brake on one bike being pulled on by catching the other bike and resulting in the rider being thrown over the handlebars, this most definatley would not have been as bad if the bike did not have a brake! so why in youth racing in the UK do we have a brake?
You do not need a brake in Europe in the FIM / UEM International 125cc series and you can ride from 10 years old - The Adult Grasstrack riders do not use brakes.
You cannot ride in the pits at a meeting the only place you can ride is on a track and if you are travelling at 50 / 60 mph going into a corner and pull your front brake on well? that would be a daft think to do on a grasstrack.
So ' No brakes please' for Cadets / Juniors upwards.
(3) And finally International 125cc Youth Racing.
We have the FIM / UEM European Final being held here in Great Britain next year 24th / 25th July hopefully in Tallington.
Could the ACU do anything to help encourage youth clubs / organisations with youth riders in GB to compete / Promote this class. We have the Formula GTC which runs very well with a goood number of riders 125cc standard engines, I am sure if anyone has been to France / Holland or Germany the entries of the tuned International 125cc engines are very good and it is a well supported event over there.
When they do come to race over here in 2010, I would like to think that we have a good number of UK / GB riders that can give them a race!
So to sum up:-
Classes for 2010 in Youth Grasstrack racing.
Auto's
Cadet's
Junior's
Intermediate's
International 125cc
Expert's
and 'No Brakes' from Cadets / Juniors upwards, I do agree on Auto's having one brake, but would suggest Cadet's be optional brakes and then Juniors none.
