Holy cow - what did you say you have - five acres?!?!?
The more you can get the leaves chopped, and the more you can get the whole thing mixed together (grass and leaves), the better.
Some leaves really resist composting - magnolia for sure, but even oak is hard to get started. Others, like maple, are no problem. If they have a waxy layer, it's a huge help to mow/chop the leaves so there is more surface area for the microbes to sink their teeth into. Chopping also helps moisture and air stay distributed.
The leaves don't blow away as easily, either, once they are chopped.
You'll be hooked the first time you go to turn it and you see steam rising from the middle of the pile ...
