I did scorch the petioles of my Palmetto where the C9 bulbs came in contact with the petioles. Burned right thru them! Lost those fronds, unfortunately. If you can keep the C9s off the green parts, you should be OK. I wouldn't create an airtight greenhouse around most zone 8 palms. As long as there's some good wind protection and additional warmth, you're OK. I'm just stringing the C9s around the base of the palm now - making sure it's not actually touching the palm.
