Most say that they are LED and the bulbs will be a brighter color even when off. Most LED's aren't glass bulbs they are plastic since they produce little to know heat. A lot of store's here are only carrying the LED C-9's and only mini lights in the old fashioned way.

For holidays they use to be quite ugly, but they have improved the colors a lot. Also Christmas decorator's in really snowy places have problems with the light being covered since there is no heat, so don't put them on your palm.
