Holy Scripture reaches its readers with poetic metaphor introducing us to the journeys of self discovery per Abraham, Moses, Joseph, Noah and no less, Jesus' apostles relating to their voyages through life viz. their New Testament records. These explorers rejected the seductions of certainty, staying true to that inspiration of the flame in the cave, guiding us through our life's invitation to remain curious.
Cardinal John Henry Newman's words, Lead Kindly Light (2) invite us not to look to the distant future, simply the next step we need to take. We may wish to know the future but we are reminded that the next step is enough when we trust God to lead us through our life's story.
