Of 9,700 Roman Jews, most were saved, with 1,007 transported to Auschwitz. The rest were hidden, 5,000 of them by the official Church - 3,000 at the Pope’s Castel Gandolfo, 200 or 400 (estimates vary) as "members" of the Palatine Guard, and some 1,500 in monasteries, convents and colleges. The remaining 3,700 were hidden in private houses, including Msgr. O'Flaherty's network of homes supervised by the Italian Partisan, Umbrella Movement, The Committee for National Liberation.
It is worth noting that The Chief Rabbi of Rome was hidden by Catholic friends until liberation. Israel Anton Zoller's story can be read here:

Many years ago when working in Genoa I had the good fortune to be invited to the home of Giuliano for lunch, whose parents provided overnight accommodation for escaping Allied aircrews en route to Switzerland. Giuliano informed me that an overnight stop (some hours for sleep, and food) was the golden rule, fearing that a neighbour might discover, and report their guests to Fascist authorities.
