I quote:
Whoever loves me will keep my word, says the Lord, and my Father will love him and we will come to him.
end quote
Today's readings invite us to take particular notice of The Spirit of Truth, speaking to us from within our thoughts.
In the Catholic tradition the heart (of the matter) is used to convey The Father's love for each of us.
Listen to your heart is frequently mentioned as our means of understanding all that The Spirit of God counsels us to implement into our life.
And I will ask the Father,
and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always,
the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept,
because it neither sees nor knows him.
But you know him, because he remains with you,
and will be in you.
We will from time, to time understand that our intuition is pressuring us to take a particular course of action, inviting us to sacrifice something of significant value to assist another person in dire need of assistance.
Whoever has my commandments and observes them
is the one who loves me.
And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father,
and I will love him and reveal myself to him.
The Spirit's counselling will manifest its presence in our thoughts, sufficient to understand that we are being directed to do all that is being asked of us. That emphatic request can save our own life, when we choose to trust the wisdom flowing into our thoughts. Lead, Kindly Light.
Some time ago on this forum I related the life saving story of my good friend Jose, returning to his home city of Bilbao regularly by aeroplane from his once monthly visit to Madrid was pressured by an overwhelming interior presence, over his working day not to return to Bilbao by plane. For the first time in twenty years travelling between Bilbao, and Madrid Jose took the overnight sleeper train back to Bilbao. Over breakfast listening to a local news flash, Jose learned that his return flight to Bilbao had crashed with many lives lost.
While assisting others is an important factor in becoming the outreach of Our Father into the lives of people He introduces to us, there is also the awareness that The Saviour looks after our well being, even the security of our life.
He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness,
but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit. ~ Titus 3:5
