After the matter of nature has passed into its grave, there is the belief that the essence of human life continues to live.
I've mentioned here my own experience with what one may describe as the continuation of human life, following death of the flesh when relating to the visitation of my Uncle William (Willy).
Some twenty years ago I was settling down, alone in the refectory to watch on television my favourite Greek football team play another Greek team at 10 pm. The referee's whistle blew at 10 pm precisely. An orb of brilliant white light appeared in my line of vision of the television set. With gold flashes dancing around the circumference of the orb two messages seeded into my conscious understandings. My Uncle Willy had died, and he offered me an apology over a misunderstanding when visiting his home several years earlier.
I immediately telephoned a sister without reply. The following morning I attempted a second call, again without reply. The following evening my sister Catherine telephoned me to inform me that Willy had passed away at 8 pm UK time the previous evening i.e. 10 pm Greek time.
I was aware that Willy was terminal, and spending his last months at a hospice. Willy and I had been close when I was a mere boy with his generosity ensuring that I could visit the cinema once weekly, even buy the occasional ice cream.
The visitation did not startle me, or even interrupt my sleep.
I accept that there will be moments in our life when we will be obliged to accept an event, or events not easily fathomed by rational analysis.
2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. ~ John 14
