The optimist invents the aeroplane, the pessimist the parachute.
~ George Bernard Shaw
I'm travelling through life supporting the pessimistic frame of mind, encouraging me to be mindful of the many pitfalls all will face walking the road of hard knocks. Being prepared to fall, and rise to continue our trek might well be understood to be much more an optimistic outlook, leading us to learn that our journey of self discovery will inevitably include learning very hard lessons.
If God treats you well by teaching you a disastrous lesson, you never forget it. ~ Ray Bradbury
Those harsh lessons are more often, or not self imposed the result of our unwillingness to trust Our Saviour's guidance to follow His wise advice in all matters. Our Father will patiently, and slowly draw us into His loving care inviting us to carry out relatively simple favours step, by step over some years. In His due time Our Father will test our faith in Him when asking us to undertake tasks demanding our fullest commitment.
Disappointment is inevitable. Should I become discouraged I have a choice to trust in the innermost inspiration of Our Father asking me to do all that He asks leading me out of my sense of hopelessness, or wallow in my self constructed pit of despair. Our Father never gives up on us, even we surrender to our fear that we have failed, therefore undeserving of The Father's continued support. Our greatest friend stands at our side every step we make, notwithstanding that our doubts are ever present filling us with apprehension, and uncertainty to overflowing.
…20 The Lord will give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, but your Teacher will no longer hide Himself—with your own eyes you will see Him. 21 And whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you:
“This is the way. Walk in it.”
~ Isaiah 30
