I quote:
You believe in me, Thomas, because you have seen me, says the Lord;
blessed are those who have not seen me, but still believe!
end quote
Thomas the Doubter best reflects most of us, if not all believers....that Jesus resurrected into new life.
Doubting Thomas wanted to believe, yet required proof that satisfied his need to be certain, that his good friend Jesus was standing before him.
Our doubts evidence our faith in God.
Without doubt there can be no faith in God, for there will be moments when our rational self will question all that we believe, leading us to reaffirm our faith in God's presence in our life when we recognise that Our Father responds to our calls for help.
Thomas was saying, "I will believe it when you prove it to me."
Faith isn't certainty.
Our faith in God is our belief in the face of our many questions, and our misgivings.
It is trust, despite doubt.
“Doubt is the heart of the matter. Abolish all doubt, and what's left is not faith, but absolute, heartless conviction. You're certain that you possess the Truth -- inevitably offered with an implied uppercase T -- and this certainty quickly devolves into dogmatism and righteousness, by which I mean a demonstrative, overweening pride in being so very right, in short, the arrogance of fundamentalism.”
