Professor Einstein was very careful never to be corraled into a particular position on religious belief by bishops, priests, ministers, rabbis, or those seeking his approval of their religious brand.
Albert Einstein's Jewish roots also led him into a Catholic elementary school in Munich, Germany for some three years where to his surprise he was able to reconcile his Jewish cultural life with the life of Jesus of Nazareth. In later life Professor Einstein understood that Jesus was as much a Jew, as was he. Meaning what? Jesus chose to reflect the presence of His Heavenly Father in His life.
A sacrifice to be real must cost, must hurt, and must empty ourselves.
Give yourself fully to God.
He will use you to accomplish great things on the condition that you believe much more in his love than in your weakness.
~ Mother Teresa
When addressing this very Mother Teresa quotation yesterday in a homily, I was asked how we can guarantee that such generosity can avoid leading us into destitution. I replied that our trust in Our Father's guidance ensures that Divine Providence will supply us with all that we will need to implenment The Father's plan into our life. Trust, otherwise known as faith, is the vital ingredient here. Without faith in God, especially in those periods when our faith is tested to near breaking point, we cannot expect to be rewarded with all that Our Father promises us, for being true to His word asking us to share His gifts granted to us, with those He brings into our orbit to partake in His benevolence.
Here lies the dilemma for our faith in God is never a matter of rote prayers, but of our cooperation with The Father inviting us to join Him in His support for the many in dire need of practical assistance.
For it is in giving that we receive. Francis of Assisi
