Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favour to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.
It's that time of the year when we speak of things to come,
with the awareness that not all that we wish for in our New Year's resolutions will develop per our aspirations.
In other words our plans may be at cross purposes with the direction that The Father has designed for us.
“Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans.” ~ Allen Saunders
Predestination is not the issue here, rather the awareness that no matter how hard we try to develop our ambitions, other influences intervene to guide us in another direction. I also understand that the determined, hard nosed personality will embrace their setbacks as nothing more than experience being accumulated along the road of hard knocks. The wise observer may comment that this is exactly the plan that The Father has prepared for our life's journey of self discovery thereby learning that our journey, and our choices create the life that Our Father has scheduled for our well being.
"May your choices reflect your hopes not your fears." ~ Nelson Mandela
I occasionally link films here to illustrate the point that I am attempting to deliver, knowing that a well told (and filmed) story reflecting on the determination of the human person to get their way, can convey more effectively my experience of the human condition in relationship with the divine mystery.
This 1945 Powell and Pressburger production "I know where I'm going" addresses the ambition of a determined young woman to marry a wealthy man. Life intervenes, turning her plans upside, down. The delightfully talented Wendy Hiller provides her audiences with the awareness that even a strong willed person can succumb to the intervention of fate. This production continues to mesmerise its audiences for its superb acting values, supplemented by a script that oozes the fraility of the human condition when love taps us on the shoulder.
