I pray because I'm helpless.
I pray because the need flows out of me all the time, waking and sleeping.
It doesn't change God. It changes me.”
~ C.S. Lewis
This morning I was asked how do I pray to Our Father.
Every morning I thank The Father for the gift of the new day He has granted me. and for all the days of my life.
When it's a grey, rainy day I thank God for irrigating our fields to grow our crops, and replenish our reservoirs providing drinking, and washing water. Blue skies, and sunshine invites me to thank God for providing the sun encouraging growth of the crops, sowing cheerfulness, and encouraging me to appreciate all the gifts of my life particularly my good health, and general well being.
My prayer continues for some ten minutes recalling the names, faces of people including my parents, siblings, and extended family, friends, and acquaintances who have contributed so much to my growth walking the road of hard knocks. I mention names, places, events including those moments when I faced overwhelming adversitites when Our Father rescued me out of harm's way. I also recall those times when I was inspired to make choices that would reward me with all that The Father has granted me, His appreciation for having enacted His requests into my life.
I have learned from my ongoing relationship with Our Father, that the covenant underwriting our friendship provides for reciprocation flowing between us. We will be asked to become The Father's outreach into the lives of those He sends to us to enact His plan in their lives, through us. Sacrifices will be required, with our doubts surfacing wondering where our journey in the care of The Saviour is taking us.
At day's end I thank God for the gift of another day, granting me a good night's sleep, and inviting Him to remain my best friend, and wisest of counsellors in all matters.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, [then] I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with me. ~ Apocalypse 3:20
The spiritual dimension opens up a pathway into The Kingdom of God, where we can discover all that is waiting for us, to participate in Our Father's plan for our life's journey. Entry into this secret garden is by His invitation.
"As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever. ~ 1 Chronicles 28:9
