I quote:
The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.
Restore our fortunes, O LORD,
like the torrents in the southern desert.

The Book of Isaiah is often quoted to address the impending arrival of The Messiah. Today's reflections focuses our attention on the cry for liberation by those Israelites waiting for the arrival of The Messiah per the promises revealed in Isaiah 9:6. :

The political reality of life for the Israelite is addressed, with an awareness that many Jews believe that The Liberator will release them from Roman occupation, and their collaborator King Herod saving them from their shackled life under foreign rule.
An indepth reading of the Isaiah prophecies invites the faithful person to trust in the presence of The Saviour, alive in the life of every person to deliver us out of our self imposed imprisoment. Salvation is the theme that resonates with those of us who recognise our own culpability.
A voice of one crying out in the desert:
“Prepare the way of the Lord,
make straight his paths.
Every valley shall be filled
and every mountain and hill shall be made low.
The winding roads shall be made straight,
and the rough ways made smooth,
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
In practical terms The Saviour liberates each of us from our self imposed exile in a land governed by our own self possessed ways. The kingdom of God reveals its reality in our life when we freely choose to accept the call to follow The Liberator, also known to us as The Christ, to set us free to enact all that Our Father has designed for our well being.
