I quote:
Be vigilant at all times
and pray that you have the strength to stand before the Son of Man.

Today's reflections render at first reading what appears to be an end times scenario.
Prophecies feature prominently throughout Scripture, warning the recipient to be watchful, on their guard for danger is lurking nearby.
Warnings are announced so that we can take action to prevent, prepare for, or flee approaching danger or suffering that is sure to come without a change in the way we live our life.
The story of Lot, and his family fleeing his home town, Sodom the result of trusting in the advice he received from Our Father is one Biblical example of early warnings provided for those who trust God's Word alive in our life, sufficiently to respond appropriately when the need arises.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” ~ Proverbs 3:5-6
I'm one not to be alarmist when the topic under review is our survival, knowing from personal experience that our life can be placed in jeopardy when we are crossing a busy road.
In other words today's readings need not reference approaching calamity, or war.
Nevertheless we are invited to be watchful, and listen carefully to our interior friend warning us to follow His guidance in all matters.
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” ~ Isaiah 30:21
