Blessed are those who fear the Lord
and walk in his ways

Today's readings speak to family ties revealed in the story of Abraham's journey of self discovery, and the presentation of Jesus at The Temple.
Abraham trusted in the word of God without reservation, obeying The Father's word even to the point of sacrificing his son. Our Father intervened stopping him from taking his son's life. There are those who argue that God's testing of Abraham's faithfulness was a step too far. One might also argue that God knew the end result there being no chance that Abraham's son would die to prove his faithfulness.
In other words the benefit of trust in God's leadership would accrue to Abraham having placed his faith in God that He will shield from all harm everyone who trusts in Him.
By faith Abraham, when put to the test, offered up Isaac,
and he who had received the promises was ready to offer
his only son, of whom it was said,
“Through Isaac descendants shall bear your name.” He reasoned that God was able to raise even from the dead,
and he received Isaac back as a symbol.
Mary, and Joseph's presentation of Jesus at The Temple records the responses of Simeon, and Anna to the presence of the child, born to be The Saviour of all who are faithful to God.
When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions
of the law of the Lord,
they returned to Galilee,
to their own town of Nazareth.
The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him
