I quote:
The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom
a light has shone.

Light is used throughout scripture to reveal the guidance of the divine mystery, in the life of those who are living in harmony with the divine presence.
When viewing images of saintly people passed on into their eternal rest in The Father's kingdom an aura of light, or halo surrounds their head evidencing their illumination. This symbolic feature represents an attempt to understand the enlightenment of those who accept Our Father's invitation to sup at His banqueting table.
Enlightenment, or illumination is a life long process in the care of The Saviour inviting each of us to participate in Our Father's life, leading us kindly light.
O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill And to Your dwelling places. ~ Psalm 43:3
Enlightenment also evidences a moment in time when the enlightened person wakes out of their sleep to embrace The Father's invitation to sup at His dining table. This sudden and dramatic awareness that there is another presence in our life, speaking to us of His love for us, and desire to lead us through our life's journey begins a life long process of growing self awareness. There is no coercion when Our Saviour requests our presence at His side, that we may realise all that He has planned for our journey through time.
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying,
"I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life." ~ John 8:12
