Spending an hour or so every day in silence removed from the radio, television and intrusions that offer distractions, opens a door inviting into our life The One who calms our anxieties to hear Him speak to us. Our Father also catches our attention in those moments when we may be contemplating that which is injurious to our well being, persuading us that there is a better way to deal with our daily challenges by providing us with the remedy leading us into calmer waters.
Going within is also known as contemplation, or meditation with a history reaching back into the early history of the human race.
the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; but you know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. ~ John 14:17
Listening in silence leads the patient child of The Saviour to understanding, then to implement all that is requested by The One loving us more than we can ever imagine possible.
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.~James 1
When writing about wisdom The Apostle James informs us that we can trust Our Father to provide for our every need. “If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you” (James 1:5). It may seem surprising that we can ask Our Father for wisdom about the tasks of our ordinary day, to day tasks trusting colleagues, or acquaintances but James tells us to “ask in faith, never doubting” that God will give us the wisdom we need. Our problem is not that we expect too much help from God rather that we expect too little (James 1:8)
It is in the every day humdrum issues of our journey that we can find The Saviour guiding us out of our self constructed dilemmas, onto a path that will provide us with a life worth living to become all that He asks of us serving His plan for our life.
