So too, you also must be prepared,
for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come. unquote
The season of Advent invites each of us to remain alert to the presence of The Saviour inviting each of us to let Him shepherd us through our life. The Light comes to all sooner, or later asking us to let Him guide us through, and out of our many adversities into new life where we may live in celebration of all that our life offers us.
The Biblical stories of Noah, and Lot are just two examples where we are invited to learn that listening too, and following the guidance of The Father enables the faithful person to save their life, while others perish having declined to act on life saving advice.
Today's understandings tell us that the city of Sodom was probably destroyed by a meteor shower. Things to come are a matter of coming to terms with that innermost whisper pleading with us to take note of His advice inviting each of us, to do all that He asks.
Lot believed, and his life was saved to live out the rest of his life, aware that he was being inspired every step of his way until journey's end. Likewise Noah believed, building his ark that would save him, and his close family from the destruction of the great flood.
Believers have the same divine inspiration today by and through the presence of the Holy Spirit.
The gift of discernment allows the faithful friend of The Saviour to interpret the intentions of people and situations.
His guidance can always be trusted because he is the “spirit of truth.”
We are reminded of this assurance in John 16:13, “when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.”
