7 He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.
He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
8 He guards the paths of the just
and protects those who are faithful to him.
9 Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair,
and you will find the right way to go.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will fill you with joy.
11 Wise choices will watch over you.
Understanding will keep you safe.
Way back in 1961 a cinema visit opened my eyes to the film adaption of Ian Fleming's book, Dr. No enabling me to understand that the two letter word NO can be more influential than believing that all we see, hear, and touch is reality. Theatre endeavours to convey something of value to its audiences, with a willingness to suggest that its story is worth believing...if only for two hours immersing oneself into a world of make believe.
“Common sense is in spite of, not the result of, education.”― Victor Hugo
Common sense cannot be learnt from books, class rooms, films et al for it is the very realisation of human kind's choice to read between the lines that impose their lessons upon the curious seeker of truth.
At an early age I learnt that my school teachers, parents, aunts, uncles, clergy attempted to impose their understandings on a child obliged to listen to all that an adult dared to teach me. The voice of reason within me had another view that I kept silent, for fear that I might be considered eccentric, or even arrogant for despite being an attentive listener I was reluctant to swallow opinions that felt uncomfortable.
The individual human person is never the result of being a clone, nor of being a counterfeit attempting to fit into the expectations of a society demanding adherence to its code of behaviour.
“Better to shun the bait than struggle in the snare.” ― William Blake
Becoming oneself takes a life time of discovering the person emerging into the life that we know to be more than the image that we demonstrate to the world. Beneath our skins lives a person needing to be more than the image that the world believes is who we are.
Theatrical performances are not confined to the celebrities parading their skills as if to say, this character that I am playing is really me.
“Common sense is the most widely shared commodity in the world, for every man is convinced that he is well supplied with it.”
― Rene Descartes
