I approached his question with some measure of understanding for his concern for his daughter's health applied to his entire family.
Flip a coin. The result is effectively random even though the coin is obeying a series of underlying laws, such as the pull of gravity, helping us better understand all that we see drives us to believe the evidence before our eyes.
The universe is not totally random for there are phenomena that give the appearance of randomness despite appreciating that the difference between the probability of one outcome, taking place over another is so imperceptible that it would be un-measurable;
thus, to our perception, random.
Here lies the dilemma for many theists when atheists confront us with the question: prove that your god exists.
Proof of God's existence is only understood through our relationship with the divine mystery, processed through our understandings arising from our experiences, witnessing to another life at one with our own that assists us navigate through the ebbs, and flows of our life's journey. Our highly personalised perception drawn from our experiences may well not be sufficient evidence to satisfy the demands of the seeker of truth asking for black, and white proof that they can grasp.
It is rather like being asked by our partner, or spouse: do you really love me? A smile, a hug, a bouquet of flowers etc. might assist, but it is only through our ongoing life time, loving relationship with our spouse, partner, children, friends etc. that love can be discerned, and understood by virtue of the many sacrifices that we make witnessing to our love of our beloved.
Love seeketh not itself to please, nor for itself hath any care, but for another gives its ease, and builds a Heaven in Hell's despair.
